The difference between Marijuana and CBD

What’s the difference between Marijuana and CBD

Marijuana and CBD (Cannabidiol) are two different products derived from the cannabis plant, and they differ in terms of their chemical makeup, uses, and legal status.

Marijuana is a cannabis plant that is cultivated for its high levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the primary psychoactive compound that produces the “high” associated with marijuana use. Marijuana is used recreationally, medicinally, or both, depending on the legal status in a particular location.

On the other hand, CBD is one of many cannabinoids (compounds) found in the cannabis plant, including marijuana and hemp. CBD is primarily derived from the hemp plant, which contains high levels of CBD and very low levels of THC.

CBD is known for its potential therapeutic effects, including reducing anxiety, relieving pain and inflammation, and improving sleep patterns.

In terms of legality, marijuana is illegal under UK Law, although some countries have legalised it for medical or recreational use.

CBD derived from hemp, is legal under UK Law, as long as it contains no more than 0.2% THC. This means that CBD products that are derived from hemp and contain less than 0.2% THC are legal in the UK and in many other countries.  All CBD products sold in the UK, including oils, capsules and edibles such as gummies require Novel Foods authorisation from the FSA (Food Standards Agency).

In summary, while the difference between Marijuana and CBD can be confusing with both marijuana and CBD being derived from the cannabis plant, they differ in terms of their chemical makeup, uses, and legal status too. Marijuana is primarily used recreationally or medicinally, while CBD is known for its potential therapeutic effects and is legal in many countries, including the UK when derived from hemp and containing no more than 0.2% THC.
