Is CBD Oil Legal In The UK?

Lots of our customers ask us “Is CBD Oil Legal in the UK” and the answer is most definitely YES!  Enjoy CBD are bound by the strict compliance to the UK Government’s Guidelines around the sale and consumption of CBD (Cannabidiol) oil in the UK.  CBD Oil is sold as a Food Supplement, just like vitamins are on your local High Street and although there is plenty of relevant scientific research to suggest that the medical profession is getting excited about the potential medical applications for CBD products around the world, there is much on-going research and development to establish exactly what the benefits are and for what ailments CBD can be applied. It is hoped by many that there will be clearer guidelines issued by the Government so the public can’t be duped into purchasing what they think is pure CBD oil but could turn out to be nothing more than snake oil…

UK consumers are increasingly becoming aware of the benefits of taking CBD as part of their daily wellness regimen.  Of course there are many different CBD products available to the UK consumer already and there may be some confusion because of that:  There are CBD Oils, CBD Edibles, CBD Topicals, CBD Vaping and even Water Soluble CBD.  With such an array of products containing CBD it is not surprising that some consumers are confused as to which CBD product is best for them.

When Is CBD Oil Legal In The UK?

CBD is not a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act so long as it has been produced from a UK approved, industrial hemp strain.

  • When purchasing CBD oils and other CBD products you should ensure that they are derived from UK approved, industrial hemp strains such as Cannabis Sativa, although there are some 60+ different strains of industrial hemp that can be legally grown for the production of a diverse range of CBD products in the UK.
  • Marketing material surrounding the sale of CBD oil in the UK must comply with UK regulations – there is enough anecdotal evidence online to suggest that taking CBD as a supplement for good health is a worthy option to explore.
  • It is legal to sell or purchase CBD products in the UK as long as they contain less than 0.2% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) or none at all.  All CBD products, whether they are CBD tinctures, balms, capsules or vaping (e-liquids), must contain less than 0.2% THC.

Companies selling CBD products in the UK have to conform to the new Novel Foods Regulation Legislation which came into force on the 31st March 2021 – Novel Foods are foods which have not been widely consumed by people in the UK or the European Union (EU) before May 1997, which basically means that the foods don’t have a history of consumption. So those companies, by implication, can only sell CBD oil products legally in the UK that have been registered by the 31 March 2021.  Enjoy CBD conform to the new legislation as the products which we sell online are classed as food supplements to aid a healthy diet and are not sold as a medical product.
