Which CBD is best for me

Which CBD is best for me?

Which CBD is best for me?  This is a question we are asked nearly every day.  It is not as simple as you might think but after reading this guide, you will be ready to make the right choice with confidence.  The CBD (Cannabidiol) market is packed full of choices ranging from CBD oils for sale to water soluble CBD and gummies which are easily portable and fit into a busy lifestyle.  We will focus on the main categories to determine which CBD is best for you, however at the end of the day it may come down to personal preference.

For those of you who don’t know, CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in abundance in the Cannabis Sativa hemp plant. It’s a naturally occurring substance that’s used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm and it’s non-psychoactive.  CBD is known to help stimulate and support the body’s own Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to continue to run efficiently.

The importance of the Endocannabinoid System when choosing which CBD is best for me..

The Endocannabinoid System plays an important role in regulating and balancing many of the processes in the body, including immune response, and helping to bring the body into ‘homeostasis‘.  Virtually all physiological processes are affected by the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which also means that the ECS can potentially be targeted to treat disease.  The ECS regulates a variety of functions within the body and two endocannabinoids, CB1 and CB2, are naturally produced by the body.  These endocannabinoids interact with neurotransmitters in the brain that bind to cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoid receptor proteins, triggering an immune response…

Because CBD contains cannabinoids which mimic endocannabinoids naturally produced by the body it is considered that by taking CBD you can give your Endocannabinoid System a huge boost to help fight disease.   It is therefore very important to choose a high quality CBD product to enhance the ECS and not to purchase an inferior product which could undermine it…

For this reason, we have only forged relationships with the leading providers of quality CBD products.  These companies use the most up to date extraction techniques and go out of their way to keep pace with the ever increasing burden of regulation being brought in by governments around the world.  These regulations had to be brought in because there were so many cowboys in the market selling sub-standard CBD products, which could potentially prove harmful to public health.

Full Spectrum CBD vs Isolate CBD

The first thing you should consider is whether you want a Full Spectrum product, an Isolate product or something in between, commonly known as Broad Spectrum.  Full Spectrum refers to products that contain more cannabinoids than just cannabidiol.  Cannabinoids are the active compounds found in the cannabis plant,  CBD and THC being the most well-known simply because they are the most abundant, but there are lots of other important cannabinoids called ‘Terpenes’ to consider.

According to research cannabinoids may have a synergistic effect which basically means that when these cannabinoids are taken together they enhance one another’s effects.  This has been termed the entourage effect’.  With this being the case, most people believe that Full Spectrum or at the very least Broad Spectrum products are considered to be of the highest quality.  This is not to say that Isolates are bad, it’s just that Isolates refer to products containing nothing more than cannabidiol.

Don’t forget the importance of terpenes

If you choose a CBD Isolate, which is solely pure CBD, it won’t contain the healing powers of Mother Nature known as active terpenes.  You will have to choose either a Broad Spectrum or Full Spectrum CBD to ensure you are getting a product which contains these beneficial terpenes.  CBD terpenes are important.  If you’re looking for the best selection of CBD products in the UK that haven’t been stripped of the powerhouse known as active Terpenes, you have definitely come to the right place. Terpenes have a key role to play in differentiating the effects of the various cannabis strains. Terpenoids and Terpenes are a large class of naturally occurring organic compounds which are known as isoprenes, as their structure is based on repeating isoprene (C5H8) units.  Terpenes are major constituents of plant resin and essential oils extracted from plants and aromatic compounds that are found in thousands of plant species which are also responsible for the various flavour and fragrances of the cannabis.  The abundance of Terpenes is usually a sign of high cannabinoid levels as Terpenes are the ‘building blocks’ of the cannabis plant.

Terpenes are what creates the wonderful bouquet, these terpenes are secreted from the exact same glands in the plant that CBD comes from and by stripping them away most people are missing out on the benefits that Terpenes are known for. Our Terpene rich CBD products are packed with antioxidants on top of the benefits offered in our high quality Cannabidiol, so adding Terpenes to your daily regimen is a no brainer!

THC is a restricted substance in the UK, so all of the products Enjoy CBD sell online in the UK only contain trace levels of THC permitted under Government Guidelines in the UK.  While CBD is totally non-addictive, at the end of the day, it’s a foreign substance that you are putting into your body and your health is of the utmost importance. Despite the fact that CBD is perfectly safe and you cannot take too much, it’s still important to make sure you taking the dose that is right for you.

Start taking a low dose and wait to see what effect it is having on you – increasing your dose as you feel comfortable or until you reach your sweet spot!

Bio availability and Onset Time

Bio availability simply means how much of the CBD contained in a product is likely to be absorbed by your body.  By definition, when a food supplement is administered directly into the blood, it’s bio availability is 100%.  If you consume a CBD food supplement orally and it passes through your digestive system, the bio-availability will be lower because there is less CBD food supplement available for your body to use.

The ‘onset time’ relates to how long it will take the cannabidiol to have the desired effect. Obviously both of these factors can vary substantially from product to product and how you take said product.

CBD Absorption and Delivery

If you are looking for value for money, you will most likely be looking for a product with maximum absorption and a delivery method that allows for as much CBD to get into your bloodstream as quickly as possible.

Typical CBD products deliver in the following ways:  Sublingual (under the tongue), Inhalation through the lungs (Vape), Skin (Topically) or Oral through the stomach (Edibles).

Sublingual – delivery under the tongue?

Usage:    Oil drops, tinctures
Delivery Path:  Absorbed into the membranes under the tongue
Effect time:    Average (approx. 15-25 minutes)

CBD oils are the most popular products for a person trying CBD (Cannabidiol) for the first time as it is very easy to manage the dosage.  Again, make sure the quality of the CBD being used is high as you will be ingesting this product. The last thing you want is to consume a cheaply produced product, steeped with pesticides and traces of heavy metals!

Using the pipette provided, place the desired number of drops of CBD oil under the tongue and hold it without swallowing for up to one minute  This action allows the CBD content to be absorbed quickly by the membranes under your tongue for a significantly faster and effective dose of CBD.

We recommend NuLeaf Naturals or see our full range here.

Oral delivery through the stomach?

Usage: Oils, capsules, edibles and drinks
Path: Salivary glands, entire stomach digestive process (liver, pancreas, stomach acids etc)
Effect Time: Slow (approx. 20-30 minutes)

A lot of people who take CBD (Cannabidiol) oil for the first time choose oral delivery method because it’s quick and easy.  The taste of pure cannabidiol is not the fruitiest and is usually very earthy.  If putting CBD oil under your tongue is not working for you, we would recommend to try another oral delivery method such as Capsules or  Edibles. If you choose a flavoured CBD oil, please make sure it contains 100% natural flavourings as many cheaper brands taint oils with lots of nasties!

CBD Skin Balms or CBD Creams?

Usage:    Balms, Lotions, Salves, Patches & Creams
Delivery Path:  Dermal Absorption through the skin
Effect time:    Slow (approx. 25-45 minutes)

This delivery method tends to be used by people who have a skin condition or aches and pains in muscles and joints.  Skin balms have a slower delivery method compared to  CBD oils for example, but can be just as effective.  Make sure the quality of the CBD being used is high, we recommend NuLeaf Naturals organic CBD Balm from Colorado USA.

Considering Water Soluble CBD?

Usage:    Add to any food or drink – Coffees, Teas, Juices and cocktails!

Delivery Path:  Salivary glands, entire stomach digestive process (liver, pancreas, stomach acids etc)

Effect time:   Medium (approx 20-30 minutes)

This delivery method is again oral through the mouth however because the particles are much smaller than traditional oil drops, your body absorbs much more.  The bio availability of Water soluble CBD can be 9 or 10 times that of traditional oils.
